I served over 11 years. My parents signed for me to join the reserves at 17 1/2 in 1972. I did my basic at 18. I served four years in the reserves and then over seven years active duty including in Korea. I am a permanently disabled service connected veteran by the VA for neurological and mobility problems incurred while in the service. I take over 50 pills a day for my disabilities and utilize a service dog for my service connected disabilities to have some independence. You are right that I have sat on my butt, many days in my wheelchair. I am also a life member of the VFW for my Korean service but I am also only a cold war veteran. What I get from some of these comments is that my service time did not matter I was just enjoying it.
