Spend This Money, Dammit!

The “The ______Act of____” has now passed the House and will become law soon. The “Law With No Name” spends about $125 per U.S. family, mostly on education and Medicaid funding for states.

There are rescissions in the bill to help “pay for it”—to reduce its impact on the federal debt. A rescission is when Congress takes back money that it previously put out there to be spent. No sooner did it move out of the Senate than Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) introduced a bill to make dang sure that one of those rescissions gets reversed.

S. 3761 “would ensure that amounts appropriated to the Bureau of Indian Affairs under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 remain available until September 30, 2010.” The cost? Just 3 cents per U.S. family.

Let’s make sure that money gets spent!
