H.R. 333, The Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act (100 comments ↓ | 3 wiki edits: view article ↓)

H.R. 333 would amend title 10, United States Code, to permit retired members of the Armed Forces who have a service-connected disability rated less than 50 percent to receive concurrent payment of both retired pay and veterans' disability compensation, to extend eligibility for concurrent receipt to chapter 61 disability retirees with less than 20 years of service.

Just why should we pay these bloodsuckers twice? They already get more than they deserve.

NOT JUST "NO" BUT "HELL NO"!

I would be willing to bet that neither of you who said "Hell no" and referred to the disabled veterans as "Blood suckers" have absolutely no clue as to what this bill actually does or why it is important. Chapter 61 retirees are forced to cut their military career short by no fault of their own (medical retirement). This causes in most cases the member to receive a significantly smaller retirement dividend (of which was not very big to begin with). On top of all this, many disabled Veterans forced to retire this way are unable to or unprepared to have gainful employment that pays on equal level what they were getting before. Enacting this law would help them close that gap that was created. Basically, it makes it so that they receive the same benefits as someone who finished their 20 years. Why would we as a nation punish someone who sacrificed so much and as a result was unable to finish their 20 years to get their normal retirement??

***

January 23, 2015, 1:05am (report abuse)

And you would lose that bet.

For years the law correctly required a veteran to give up retirement in order to receive VA compensation. Then the liberal bleeding hearts changed it so these same bloodsuckers could double-dip and get more than they deserved.

As to your whine about being forced to retire - BULL$HIT! They are not forced to do anything. They cut and ran because they saw an easy way to get out and live off others. Want out - get out. Want to work - work.

Stop whining and scamming the rest of us so you can lay on the couch all day.

Whiney-@ssed losers!

gs123 wants us to gain knowledge but does not know basic grammar.

The word "your" is a pronoun often used as in the form of the possessive case of "you" used as an attributive adjective.

The word "you're" is a contraction of the words "you" and "are" by those who are too lazy to spell out the words.

So in this case it appears gs123 meant to be lazy and use the contraction you're but instead, as is typical among the uneducated, used the possessive pronoun your.

In either case this person is still a less than truthful example of the cut-and-run individuals who now want to screw the taxpayer out of more welfare money.

People that express their opinion without personal experience. Have a good day.

@gs123

April 4, 2015, 10:11am (report abuse)

How do you know what experience anyone else might have? Do you think a veteran could not disagree with you? If that is how you think you are wrong. A great many veterans see all the whining you and those like you do as nothing more than a group of people who did nothing trying to get something they do not deserve.

For those who do not understand, these scammers are trying to get welfare payments twice for the same service. That is generally known as "double-dipping" and is usually not allowed. Those who want to screw the taxpayer, such as the individual using gs123 as a pseudonym, are not satisified that they are being paid for not doing anything. They want to be paid twice for not doing anything. That is double-dipping of the worst kind.

We who served our committments fully call these folks "cut-and-runs" because they did not want to finish what they had committed themselves to do. They chose instead to run away at the first chance they found.

I am having a fabulous day with honor.

1) because president Obama promised it.

2) because its their earned retirement - V.A. is a completely different affiliation altogether not even apart of the dod

3) illegal immigrants get welfare

so your saying a 25 year old soldier with 2 years of service. Married with 2 children is on patrol in Iraq, steps on a landmine *boom* blows off his leg breaks his back & 4 ribs massive brain damage and extreme ptsd! Obviously the quality of the rest of his life is not going to be nearly the same and IF hes lucky MAYBE he will be able to work but that's a HUGE maybe and extremely unlikely. So your telling me he doesn't deserve to collect his retirement because the va is giving him around 3000 a month to support his family? Your an Idiot

I read the things these very few haters post and it pops out at me that they were either in the military but got put out and are still angry and jealous of those of us who sucked it up and drove on.

You either didn't serve in the military or you quit, or, most probably were kicked out since you were not considerate of others property or whatever the reason you were put out because YOU did something and now it sounds like you still have not accepted the blame....it's wrong to hate and blame those who were stronger and more committed than you.

A HERO

May 23, 2015, 12:15pm (report abuse)

A veteran is a man ,or woman that has been to war

and fought for our Country and our freedom.

A Veteran is sometimes an unsung hero. One that

we never hear about and sometimes He, or she

is just forgotten.

Today I want to say to our Veterans - you are our

heroes. you put your life on the line for us. The ones

that lost their lives are now in God's hands, but you

are still here. You might have lost an arm, or a leg,

maybe both legs - you did it in the line of duty.

Maybe you still have both arms and both legs, that

don't mean that you didn't lose anything in the war.

You could have lost your best friend, or many friends.

Now you only have memories.

Today my Veteran I want you to know - that if it

wasn't for you, we would not be able to enjoy the

freedom that we enjoy today. It is not free - you

have paid a high price for it. Thank for being the

special hero you are. This is what I think a

Veteran is...

Sorry 1bmark, but you make assumptions you can't back up with facts.

You say "These guys went to war, not only went to war but fought in war." Are you aware just how many of these veterans never went anywhere, or at worst went to someplace like Germany or Japan, and did absolutely nothing which endangered their lives?

Stop with the rhetoric.

And by the way you use 11b as a part of your nym. Would you care to back that up with some proof you actually deserve to use it? I seriously doubt it.

Still making assumptions? The idea that more than one person might be opposed to your views would indicate that. I served my tour in the military as well and I don't believe everyone who served deserves to be given free rein at the government table.

If you look you will see that I am one of those who actually has an account here, as opposed to you and many other anonymous posters. It may not make a bit of difference to you but it does to me.

Your comment about not being able to make it on $30,000 a year is straining your credibility. Take a look at how many in this country make less and are still able to be productive citizens without government handouts. Maybe then you can understand how ridiculous you sound.

I think the idea of receiving double payments for the same service is wrong and I will continue to say so.

Im not getting any money from the social security disability fund but I do get crsc though. This is something you dont realize about me Im not speaking for myself I get combat related special pay compensation so this bill doesnt effect me one way or another I just always have other veterans back. Vets stick together its what we do.

I know of one guy who is unemployable and he doesn't collect ssdi he Collect's his VA and that is all, no retirement and no social security.

Just because you have a different opinion on a proposed bill doesn't mean you have to insult vets. Im perfectly aware that this bill isnt going to pass anytime soon, there is already a deal in the works that if/when this fails this time they are going top just pass it for combat veterans for the time being and then rework it for the 115 congress so just relax. But as long as I can keep you writing on here it isnt much but it gets more and more response on google :)

Whatever arguments you get into with others here won't change how I, and a large number of other folks believe. I am not in favor of this type of double payment. That's my point.

As to what will happen in the future, as you have said before, combat veterans already have a way to gain concurrent payments. That at least puts some form of qualifier on the payments.

I am not in favor of concurrent receipt as it is put forth in this bill and I have seen no arguments here or elsewhere that provide any reason to change that opinion.

Recently the VBN has had a rash of attempts to game the system. The individual referred to above - Ranger11bv appears to be one. Whether or not the individual who posts here as 11bmark is the same individual or not, he does appear to believe veterans should be able to get whatever they want.

That kind of thinking will, in the opinion of the group of veterans I associate with on a daily basis, cause all of us more trouble in the future. We have worked hard to gain the benefits we have today and we feel the appearance of greed, as shown here, will backfire in the future.

The taxpaying citizens, as good as they are, will eventually say we have enough. History has shown that those who don't know when to stop get taught a tough lesson in the end.

Well 11bmark. You are one bitter individual towards veterans. I bet you have the opportunity to get a job and provide for your family. Some of us veterans that are disabled can no longer work because we are in wheelchairs or now blind. Some of us served in the armed forces for over 18 yrs and received a retirement. When we accept V A disability we have to give our retirement back. All we ask is to get our retirement back which we earned. Obviously you never served or have had a devastating injury. I would invite you to visit Walter Reed Army Medical Center and see the injured while they learn how to cope with injuries that are life changing. Nobody is asking for more than what they earned and deserve. God forbid you get into some kind of accident and need help, because karma is a bitch.

So if I understand all this these amendments are being offered by the Senate but no concurrent receipt was in the House version of the bill? If that is true then it would mean that even if the Senate approved the changes the bill would have to go back to the House or some sort of joint committee to work out the differences. Is that a fair take on this whole thing? It seems like a whole lot of mumbo-jumbo to me. I guess time will tell.

The house and senate will meet together in a Conference Committee. The Committee will work through the difference of the two bills and come to an agreement on which version of the bill they want to pass. Once the Committee comes to an agreement then the bill is sent to the President’s desk.

Both the House and Senate are Majority held by the Republicans so that part wouldn't be an issue, but it would become an issue when it reached Obamas Desk he is already threatening to veto defense spending because he wants more money to go to government spending. Both parties are going to have to come to a back room deal.

I don't know about you but with Isis Growing and already here in america and growing I really want defense spending!!

Even if it gets through all the hashing and slashing in congress and the president signs it, that still doesn't put any money in our pockets. The money for all this has to be included in the appropriations bill as well. If it isn't there we can all just go spit in the well because we won't get anything. There is always more than one way to screw up the deal.

I'm really concerned because it looks like a good bit of new veteran spending is being stuffed into the bill one way or another and it makes it easy for them to cut this one or that one in order to work out their compromises. Guess it all boils down to what they want and not what we would like to have.

You are probably one of the old Soldiers who was brained washed with the BS by your Drill Sergeant and the rest of your command back in the day. I don't see where these Soldiers who were medically retired is asking for a handout. I work with Soldiers and I've seen some get medially retired after serving as much as 15 years. I know a Soldier who has two purple hearts and they had to medically retire him I guess he was a cut and run Soldier also. You people who keep saying all of this negative stuff have no ideal what these Soldiers have been thru. So in other words SHUT THE HELL UP.

You know nothing about anyone but your own sorry @ss.

These whiners are nothing more than a bunch of welfare scammers looking for someone to pay their way. They don't deserve anything and that is exactly what they should get. Nothing!

WHINE WHINE WHINE!!!

GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!

That's all you hear from veterans anymore.

As of the version of the NDAA dated 18 June 2015 there is no mention that I can find of concurrent receipt or combat-related special compensation of any kind. I suppose that means the whole thing was scrapped for another year. That is really what I expected but my hopes had been raised by some commnets here by those who seemed to have some idea of what was happening. Seems their information was not as accurate as hoped.

So where's that so-and-so who kept telling us how this was a done deal and we just had to wait for congress to get it done? I sure haven't seen anything of him since all this went in the toilet. Sounds to me like he was just another big mouth making loud noises about something he knew nothing about. Figures.

And if I remember right he said he was already getting all his retirement and his VA money anyway so he already had his. Real great guy.

A little birdie whispered that he was outed as a fake. Not even a veteran, just some want-to-be who couldn't cut it. Sad.

Figures. He sure made a lot of noise about how he knew what was happening and how this was a done deal.

There are only 19 work days left for the congressmen and senators before the new fiscal year starts. And not one appropriation bill has been passed so far. Same of stuff, just more of it.
