Really doesn't matter if this passes ot not. There will not be an increase this year because the CPI is below last year's level.

Minimum wage is being increased by approximately 10% for workers who have given taxpayers nothing. Why not give disabled vets a 10% increase for giving taxpayers their health?

I agree with Sgt. Paul

I can't understand why the disabled vets keep getting the shaft. I agree that minimum wage did go up. What is a disabled vet or for that matter a serviving spouse to do when the cola does not go up? Why should pe so willing to sacrifice when the money end does not work out if you become disabled?

When we can bailout Citi Bank we should be ale to squeeze 10% for us who made it happen for them.

Got a problem, take a pill says obama. getting depressed or upset, then take a "its for the greater good" pill. why be a drag on society. the rally cry is not "give aid and comfort to patriot vets", but "the disabled, aged and unworthy should take a pill for the greater good". if you don't like the masters policy then you are one of those that need a pill, for the greater good. nazism is so easy to do if you just try to understand it in todays terms. the people have spoken, they want to live in an obamanation not in a righteous nation that our fathers and forefathers fought and died for.

Maybe we need to stop our kids and grand kids from going into war, because they said they would take care of us old Vets Now look we can't work overtime for more money now can we, but its OK for us to go out and beg for money I'm 100% disabled and I don't like to fight anymore but I would be glad to if it would help us all get what is coming to us I feel like the Gov Helps those who will put money back into there pockets thats why we never get a fare shake I'm ready for a big raise and catch me up with the rest of the world, if you know what I mean. I'm tired of holding my head down and I'm sick of all the greed in washington Just give us what we really deserve and better hospitials and doctors I'm tired of the second hand doctors and nurses that make me feel like I'm below them. Sorry if I upset anyone I just feel like nobody cares anymore and I think its time for that bronze marker if things keep getting worse 942 characters

It's about time to give our DAVs a larger than normal cost of living raise. Why not 25% across the board as recomended by the blue ribbon panel. These vets gave us our freedom, lets get behind them and help...

Texas Disabled Veteran

We serve our country to preserve freedom and protect our country from enemies threatening our way of life.

Those that we protect and those elected to represent us are they truly serving America’s? Stimulus package “cash for clunkers” it helped deplete the car inventory for whom? It should have been specifically targeted to America owned Companies, Ford, Chrysler, GM and models truly manufactured in the continent of the United States. This would have been a true stimulus for our economy. We need true representation, not broad politically correct global verbiage that sounds good.

2010 Compensation & Pension Rate Information

VA compensation and pension benefits cost of living allowance (COLA) is paid based on the Social Security Administration (SSA) COLA. Compensation COLA by statue may not be more than the SSA COLA and pension COLA is equal to the SSA COLA. This year SSA did not increase COLA. VA will be providing letters to beneficiaries informing them that there will be no COLA for 2010.

Greetings to all Vets. Like myself, I too was hoping that all Veterans would get an increase to our compensation disabilty benefits. Unfortunately, there will be no increase. Due to what "JLGO" stated up above, SSA did not increase COLA. Thus, forget about wishing for an increase in our monthly payments. However, if Congress can get their acts together, Veterans should receive a $250.00 stimulus check (as well as retirees) sometime in 2010. The way Uncle Sam treats his/her Veterans is very sad. I'm in college right now and this past August, more than half of Veterans who were enrolled in school didn't even get their first payment through the new Post 9/11 bill until of course the media outlets (CNN/FOXNEWS/MSNBC) started reporting on this issue. With the mess going on right now in Veterans who are trying to get disability comp., I wonder how long will this debacle go on. Mr. Shinseki, you need to elevate your leadership with higher standards!!!

it's a crying shame how disabled veterans are treated and dishonored in their service and sacrifice to this country called the united states of america. they throw peanuts as compensation to them. it is sad, sad!

To all my fellow brothers and sisters who have service connected disabilities, may God bless. It just appears to me that America has forgotten us. We didn't ask to be disabled and fight through life. A COLA increase for 2010 seems like such a low price to pay for the service we provided to our country. Hang in their vets and "welcome home"!

December 4, 2009, 4:44pm (report abuse)

At least the VA could post on their website whether or not there will be a FY2010 comp increase. It is still like being in the Army....LEFT IN THE DARK!!!!

And citizens wonder why so many vets are homeless....

This bill, like most bills for vets, is a sham. There is no glory in being a veteran. Read the comments on other bills, like H. R. 3491 and you will see exactly what JQ Public thinks of our vets.

December 13, 2009, 10:03pm (report abuse)

As a 100% disabled viet vet a pay raise would be nice but to have some privacy of my medical records would be just as good, we all swore a oath to protect and defend the constitution what ever happened to the 4th amendment? the first or any thing promissed us?

The VA is sure not looking at us with any kind of respect, because they used us all up they can forget about us we are the many who are hurt and it isnt our fault.

Something is wrong here when you cant get teeth fixed when you are 100% service connected, or the director of the VAMC wont try to resolve the problem. How about just a little compassion for us when we are in pain for daYS ON END.

December 14, 2009, 4:23am (report abuse)

I am 100% disabled veteran recieving both SSA and VA comp, I have a family and Im only 35 years old. The COLA every year helps me and my family out. I cannot believe that the blood I spilt means so little to the government. What is this showing the youth of today... Their future if they become disabled. They will NOT be taken care of for long. -Disgruntled-

Hello fellow vets, Happy New year. I used to be so proud of my military service, and I still am. I am 60%, already had one knee replaced and am working on the other. I would glady stop receiving comp to be pain free, but that aint gonna happen. I am very ashamed of what the gov is doing to us. They had no problem asking us to give our lives if necessary, but a measly 5% or 6%, c'mon. All the bailouts that were passed out, we got nothing, and they (big gov) didnt even consider us. Of course Oboma wouldnt care, he didnt serve. May GOD bless you all and keep you safe. Better luck next year.

While 2009 had a substantial COLA, it, like now in 2010, has NO adjustment on FUEL. It costs more to heat a home and run a car, but it does not appear to have a COLA balance. Also.., what's going on with V.A. Claims? While I'm at 100%, my retroactive pay from 1988 is still unpaid. I'd be staisfied with no pay increase for 2010, if I were paid what I'm retroactively owed for the past 22 years. It's the Newark, N.J. Regional Office messing this up. V.A. Medical is fine!!! The Regional Offices are a disgrace!

my husband and father are disabled vet and we had to move my father in with us just so we could combine the 2 incomes just to make ends meet. I can just imagine what the other vets are going through. even though you have gave of yourself to keep us safe here at home the us gov don't care it is like the old days when the soldiers were giving 5.00 and sent home without a thank you. now they are trying to cut medical benefits to. I think we need to get all the vets together and go to washington and protest how they are treating the vets

@ John Pender. the Newark NJ regional office lost my medical record. Good things I made 2 copies. I hope you get your retroactive pay. It took me two years to get mine on top of getting a rating, all due to a lost record.

I just started my taxes and realized the $250 stimulous that was to take the place of our cost of living increase will be taxed. Just because we are Veterans doesn't mean we can't do the math. A small increase for cost of living over years equals thousands of dollars. I'm not sure why the people making these decisions think that we don't see that or that we will just sit back and allow it to happen. On paper this looked like the best cost cutting plan, probly saving the government millions of dollars. The main purpose for government is to protect the American people, unfortunately the people who enlisted to fight for our protection are the people getting the shaft.

I for one think this is wrong not to give (us the vets) who have served our country our little pay raise. It is so easy to take away..why not take away from Congress also. Make sure They don't get their BIG pay raise. Sure is fishy how people are treated!!! What goes around comes around people.

I just read the VA portion of The President's 2011 budget. Guess what folks? they are freezing us yet again. ref: VA Budget summary page 2A-7. Thanks Mr. President. I hope inflation doesn't put my family in the poor house so you can say you saved the taxpayer's money. I pray that your budget is BUTCHERED by the house and senate. I pray that our COLA will be restored by those who know first-hand the sacrifices that veterans have made for this Great Country. Most of all Mr. Obama, I pray that this great country will survive your Presidency. God Bless America. - Chris Crochet

The cost-of-living is still lower than it was in 2008 when we got a 5.8 percent increase. Until the CPI exceeds the third quarter 2008 figure we won't get any COLA.

I guess we could give back the fairly big increase for 2008 and then see if they would give us an increase but I don't think anyone wants to do that.

I personaly don't want them tinkering with the current system. We get increases when the CPI goes up but don't take a cut if it goes down. Any attempt to "fix" the system by congress would most likely just screw it up.

No COLA hits me hard I'm 100% DAV, SS & Ret. Navy. DC has no probs finding money to fund projects in billions. Boggles the mind. You got the best of me, young and healthy. If I could get those things back, you could keep my check. This's really nothing new to me, I've seen Congress argue months against approving a measly 1 or 2% active-duty pay raise. I swear the following: When checking aboard a new, shore duty station, here in U.S., on the front of the check-in desk was a poster saying: "Check it out, you may be eligible for Food Stamps". Nothing against people who need them but they don't put their life on the line everyday, voluntarily, either. I think Vets are treated disgracefully, except when presenting an award or at a funeral, then we're the greatest. Just words. I want to see action and "the money". Tidbit: A Vet who lost his legs, in combat, is total DAV, Ser. Conn., gets less money than Non-SC w/ admin discharge for AWOL. Why? He's poor. I know, he's my brother-in-law.
