I know it all, there will be no tier V The Jobs Bill will no include any new benefits just extensions on the dates which run out this month.

February 8, 2010, 1:30pm (report abuse)

We need to have a Tier V extension for the unemployed. There are no jobs out here. We do not just merely need a extension of dates to the current extensions. We need to have a new tier of benefits added

(logged-in user) February 8, 2010, 8:55pm (report abuse)

Isn't there ANY legislation in congress that proposes a Tier V?

I cannot see the Federal govt leaving out in the cold...even if they have a tier 5 for three months that would be better than nothing...they do not want to look bad in the eyes of the entire world about they way they treat their citizens...extension for six months would be nice and an extension to the end of the year would be miraculous...

February 17, 2010, 2:58pm (report abuse)

well , the government is going to pass the unemployment extention , we all know this , BUT WHEN ? how long will it take ? my little town is up to 15% , and NOT a good job for over 50 miles one way, if you are lucky. and as far as job ceation , I don't see aSNOW BALL IN HELL for that to happen in most small towns.

February 17, 2010, 5:31pm (report abuse)

Hopefully, they will add another tier, 1 that instead of just adding X-number of weeks, keeps extending in states that are at a high level such as 9 or 10% until it falls below that level. Additionally, to provide some kind of employment incentive, they should give tax credits for hiring, as well as the use of temporary help through a staffing agency. This could be the quickest way to get people back to work.

February 18, 2010, 8:48am (report abuse)

We prevailed before, we can do it again...continue calling, faxing, emailing...last vote was close, but it was passed...this one will be close as well..."their way of flexing their muscles..but it did not work before show them it will not work this time...although they are not at "work" flood their offices with calls, faxes, emails ...below is the entire list of senate names, numbers, email address and fax number...LETS DO IT...also included below is the Office of the Senate Finance Committee...

February 18, 2010, 9:13am (report abuse)

I know that many of you feel frustrated and that the calls, faxes, and emails are in vain, and therefore are giving up...DON'T!!!if it were not for all the things we did last time I truly feel that the Senate would not have acted, slowly but none the less it was passed...the same goes for this time...HANG IN THERE...it will pass and you will feel good about yourself that you were part of it...take a deep breath(?) and get back to "work" I am and there have been several times when I have thrown up my arms and said to hell with it...but I took my own advice, walked away for a few hours did something relaxing then came back and felt reenergized...DON'T GIVE..we are all in this together and so long as we support each other it will be fine...God Bless

February 18, 2010, 7:46pm (report abuse)

Just remember, even though we all know that a 5th tier of benefeits might be proposed by somebody, since that January chart has 18 states in double digits, it's at least as important to have tax incentives that will result in employment. The quickest way to do that is probably thru temporary help & staffing agencies(Manpower, Kelly, etc). There should be accelerated & enhanced tax breaks to encourage the use of temporary workers, at least until companies can feel confident enough to hire new workers, then there should be additional tax breaks then.

Senate's schedule tomorrow

Floor Schedule

Monday, Feb 22, 2010

2:00 p.m.: Convene and proceed to the reading of Washington's Farewell Address.

Thereafter, resume consideration of H.R.2847, the Jobs for Main Street Act.

HR 2847 to include

"Unemployment benefits, COBRA, extend benefits period; extend termination date eligibility to June 30, 2010"

Again: this will only extend eligibility date!

There is nothing I can find going to the floor of the Senate to add more weeks or tiers for us, long term unemployed.

We (here in IL.) only have six weeks left of lifeline.

February 21, 2010, 7:33am (report abuse)

Just got off the phone with Janice at PA Claims...when I filed was allowed tofile for one week online, so I called she stated that was the one week for tier 2...NEXT Sunday Feb 28th am able to file for two weeks for the start of Tier 4 weeks ending Feb 21/Feb 27..Tier 4 will end weeking March 27th which you will file for on March 28th..I just hope they are not going to screw us over...I don't think so they have been very good in keeping track of things...anyone else have this experieance(?)

February 21, 2010, 8:21am (report abuse)

We have got to some how get through to these Senators that the unemployed are deparate, that they are responsible for us being unemployed and they need to fix it by extending the unemployment insurance by more months not the ending DATE...once they get back on the Senate floor on Monday they will start the fight about HEALTHCARE...WTF do you need healthcare for...WE HAVE NO MONEY FOR IT...call fax and email...below are the names of every senator with the information...

February 22, 2010, 6:47am (report abuse)

This is it folks the final push for the extension...just remember when you call or fax or email that you claify that the extension should be a stand alone bill and that it is not to be for just to extend the date but for a NEW TIER..there seems to be some confusion in that area...TIER V is need before the end of this week..pray everyone..power of prayer is in masses...

I know I may not matter to you but I am a single mother who has been looking for a year for a new job. Nobody calls back or responds. The days of person to person interviews are gone. Personally it is all who you know. I took civil service tests and guess what because of being white I now fall to the bottom of the list. Those of you who have a job have no right to critcize us. Try to be out of work and see how it feels for once. Why shouldn't the extension pass?

Tier V, for 6-months, should be passed immediately! Read today's New York Times cover story about the 57 year old woman from Buena Park, CA unemployed now 2 years. There are lots of us out here who are professionals and can't find ANY work. This is just the beginning of 5 million coming off all current Tiers by mid summer 2010. Mr. Toad's wild ride has begun...hang on to your shirts or Congress will get that as well. They should be ashamed of themselves. It is sinful how they are ignoring the right thing to do...extend, extend, new Tiers forward motion or adios in November to ya'll good ole' boys and girls.

To the Citizens of the State of Georgia.. Saxby Chambliss voted Nay and Johnny Isakson voted Abstain on roll call to move the bill to the floor for vote. These two Republicans represent the State of Georgia which has an unemployment rate of 10.3%. The main Street Bill is a start. It is evident these two are concerned about the Job they were elected to do. Remember this next time they seek re-election . Kudos to Scott Brown Olmpia snow and the other 3 Republicans. Shame on you Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss

My heart goes out to all of the unemployed who are about to lose all lifelines. I do know how you feel as my son is one of you. It's not easy living on unemployment, but at least it is something. I hope and pray for all of you that this will get done. American lifes are at stake, and it is a sorry situation for all of us, if our own country lets you all go by the wayside. My fear is what does the Senate or Congress really care, they have their fat jobs and big paychecks coming in every month. They must understand the situation you are all in, and pass every extension and new tier available. We must not let America fail it's own people...God Bless you all!!!

From reading the AP article below

Apparently there are discussions of long term extensions between Majority Leader Reid and the Republican Minority Leader. The article talks about a $100 Billion dollar bill(apart from the jobs bill that just passed) that would at least:

A) Extend the deadline from Feb 28th into March so that current extensions(Tiers 1-4)don't run out on people. But if you read the article carefully, it also mentions of more costly measures referring to additional weeks added ie; Tier 5,although they are not calling it that. But again these are just talks, nothing concrete at all.

Also you know that Reid is up to something when he stripped unemployment extensions from the Senate version of the Jobs Bill @ $15 Billion in comparison with the House Bill well over $100 Billion with Unemployment Extensions in place, but no Tier 5. For Reid to strip extensions from the jobs bill doesn't make any sense unless he plans to do something bigger.

The word jobs is mentioned nowhere in the bill except the title. Absent all together are the words unemployed, unemployment, jobless, job seekers, jobs creation and the like. Amazing.

BTW, the earmarks are insulting, at best, if not downright infuriating. It is unclear how any of these proposals will create jobs. Could someone please help me better understand how this is going to help Main Street? Anyone?
