"Protecting civil rights and civil liberties while preventing ideologically based violence and homegrown terrorism" -- I just have a hard time with the objectionable term of "terrorism". One man's terrorist may be another's freedom fighter. We (our country's government) supported Al-Qaida when they were viewed as the 'freedom fighters' in Afghanistan fighting against Russian troops - now, decades later, they are suddenly terrorists. Who's to say the U.S. isn't the terrorists? We are in their country.....

the united states are terrorists. Terrorism is using violence or coercive means to achieve political and/or social ideological goals. That is exactly what the U.S proposed in Iraq, and they did that via violent means, ergo they are terrorists.

This is a clear 1st Amendmendment violation. These criminals who have stolen control of our government are shaking in their boots.More and more people are finding out the truth about terrorism--that it's a lie--that all major terrorist acts are sponsored by the host country and the internet is the last unregulated media with the free flow of information and they can't stand it.When the truth is outlawed, only outlaws will know the truth.Wake up America! So now I'm eligible for prosecution under this bill!?!?This is 1930's Germany.God help us.

We are living in a dictatorship for sure. The people have no voice, representetives do not represent the people. Its obvious there is a BIG PLAN ahead for the new class of slaves. We need a peaceful shutdown of this kind of crap. Contacting your congress people does you no good, they won't listen because they don't want to listen, the global elites own this country from decades of politicians selling out America for their own greedy gain. It makes me sick! We need more candidates.

This is a very odd bill that smacks of pork barrel politics.

Regardless, the LAST entity we need trying to protect us from ourselves is the Homeland Security.

Let freedom ring...

After having read the entire bill, I saw little to nothing about the Muslims with whom we are at war. Why? Because this bill is talking about you and me, the tax paying voters and consumers they depend on to soak up every word they say without question. Incredibly enough, 404 of our so-called elected representatives from both the Democrat and Republican parties voted in support of this bill. There is little doubt that this bill is specifically targeting the growing patriot community that is demanding the reinstatement of the Constitution. Offhand this makes me think there are more people than they’d like to contend with who are fed up with the war in Iraq, taxation without representation, and the ongoing deluge of Mexicans who are blithely passing through the holes created by slow border reinforcement.

I wish I could say this was not happening but the Republicrats have been controlling the national media to deluded us with the illusion of conflicting party politics while passing stuff like this behind everyone’s back. Or worse right under our noses. We defiantly no longer have a government of the people, for the people, by the people. Just ask anyone that lives in OH (as I do and witnessed) or FL if their vote counted. We no longer live in a citizen representative democracy as was planed by our forefathers. Ya know, the terrorists that gave us the freedom we had just a few years ago. The constitution gives us the RIGHT AND OBLIGATION to seek any means necessary to regain that power. Including but not limited to the violence this new bill is pretending to prevent. IF knowing the TRUTH makes me a terrorist I guess that’s what I am. A person that believes in freedom just like the people that started this country.

Hr-1955 is the culmination of a long series of events that were pre-staged with PNAC and include the crime of 9 slash 11.

National media was aggregated into an information Ministry.

Homeland Security was created.

Haliburton detention centers have been completed.

Torture has been approved by the Senate Judiciary.

We have a supreme court that selects presidents.

Soldiers who would help us are mired in illegal wars of occupation in far away lands.

The plan is fully implemented with the passage of Hr 1955.

Piece by piece our guarantees have been replaced with bills of compliance and allegiance.

Discussions of the Declaration of Independence is a crime.

Every last line of taxpayer credit and laundered it through "War On Terror" banks.

We are subjects of a police state locked inside our borders.

What do they fear? What do they have in store for us next?

This was the plan all along.

It doesn't surprise me that this bill was sponsored by a dummycrat. It doesn't surprise me that it was passed by both sides of the Cesspool. It doesn't surprise me that we haven't heard anything about it in the media, even from "Freedom Loving Sean Hannity."

Of course, they have more important issues at hand... like Brittany Spears and the other celebrity retards in Hollywood.

If you ask me, and this will make me a "terrorist" under this bill, I am beginning to believe it is time to prune the tree of Liberty.

This is just another episode in the series "The Death of American Civil Liberties".

This bill would do nothing but track possible "trouble makers", and even start profiling people.

At this time we can do nothing but ready. Be ready for anything this government would throw at us.

And NO Ron Paul is NOT the answer. After study this mans' views for hours upon hours....I have read between the lines. He is not the man that would save America...he is simply a Republican, a true republican...not a neo-con.

He just seems like a breathe of fresh air because he tells truthfully what he believes. And this is true..but that does mean I have to support him.

Most of these Ron Paul fanatics have only taken a surface look at their unquestionable leader.

But I have seen the wolf under the Lamb's clothing.

Real revolutionaries see through lies.

The first Jeff is wrong. Terrorism is not the use of violence to achieve goals. It is the use of violence directed specifically at civilian populations to cause fear as a means to achieve goals. The US are not terrorists. They are imperial.

This is among the worst, most repressive, fascistic bill I've ever seen. Using FEAR, it takes away practically every remaining right you have, enabling 'thought crimes' worse than anything Soviet Russia offered. It gives almost unlimited freedom to designate anyone a terrorist, saying there are "torrents of terrorist propaganda" on the Net. Really?? That's news to me. But we still have a right to see dissent, even if from supposed 'terrorists'. The Constitution DEPENDS ON ALLOWING DISSENT.

Remembr, WE were terrorists to the British in 1776. This is a campaign to DESTROY YOUR FREEDOM to see and say what you like on the Net AND ELSEWHERE. I absolutely REJECT this monstrous bill. MAIL YOUR SENATOR A STRONG PROTEST NOW- before it passes the Senate, or The Shrub WILL sign it.

9/11 was a "False Flag" operation, intended to advance us to the final stages; of the actualization of the "New World Order's" unitary authority, The "Global Governance". As long as the United States exists, in its current form; 'they' can't realize this goal. HR - 1955 is one of the 'final straws', that will allow this to occur. Soon after this is passed; a new '9/11 style' Terrorist attack here, will allow them to enact Martial Law. The United States, as a sovereign nation, is about to DIE !!

December 6, 2007, 10:42am (report abuse)

The ACLU continues to have serious concerns regarding the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (H.R. 1955). The framework established by the measure will unavoidably make the focus of the commission the bill creates more likely to lead to unconstitutional restrictions on speech and belief – in addition to more appropriate restrictions on actions. Experience has demonstrated that the results of such a study will likely be used to recommend the use of racial, ethnic and religious profiling, in the event of a terrorist attack. We believe this approach to be counter-productive, and it will only heighten, rather than decrease, the spread of radicalization.

HR 1955 will establish a think tank style committee tasked with preparing a plan of action to coordinate the military tactics for physical public suppression of any rights given that public by the First Amendment to our Constitution. Last time I looked, the Forth Amendment had already been shredded using the Ricco act, FISA with the redefinition of “financial institution”. Ladies and gentlemen, we have been distracted by the candy of Hollywood, sports, illegal war, religion, and consumer goods, and paid no attention to the wolves taking the meat from our table. We no longer have a Congress or Main Stream Media and are now too weak from political and moral malnutrition to even stand up to this menace vocally, let alone fight to recover what is ours. This government could put us all in concentration camps and nobody would mind as long as we had a Hi Def TV and idiotic programming 24-7. What a dreadful waste of a once great system of government for civilized human beings.

It is simple if real Americans steped up and took action. it is so very simple. Get two witnesses to go with you and go up to any Paid servant and ask them 1.you have sworn an oath or office, is that correct? They will say Yes. Your witnesses will write down that they said "yes" 2. That oath of office is to uphold the constitution of the United States (a corperation by the way, not government!) and they will say "yes" and your witnesses write down what they say. 3. you say "I accept your oath of office" They will say, "ok", "good", "thank you" or some such response. Your witnesses write that down as well. 4. You have been paid and compensated for fulfillment of your oath of office, is that correct sir/ mam. They will respont "yes " or some other affermative and your witnesses write it down.

Since youhave sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution or the United States and paid to do so and agreed to fufill your obligations of contract with me, please tell me what the 13th amendment sais..... They won't be able to respond. Your witnesses record their response or lack of. Well, perhaps the latter half of the fourteenth amendment..... again they won't know (and don't want to know), your witnesses again record... Ok, how about the fourth, everyone knows the fourth amendment. ... record response or lack there of. Ok can you tell me anything word for word of your contract you have sworn an oath to? Record response. (having a video recorder is a great idea, emmediately copy under witnesses again to keep pure by law, put in sealed envelope and mail to Circuit court..I think.... and one to yourself. Oh, get the witnesses to sign and noterized signiture that these statements they observed first hand and are true under penalty of pergery.

Please defeat the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007” bill. With the assault on our democracy by the executive branch and those powers that influence them, passing this bill could be very dangerous to our civil liberties. As we have seen with the midnight signing orders that ignore the rule of law, the complete disregard of justice in the justice department, closed and secretive government and many other devious actions, we are steadily becoming something far more sinister that what our founding fathers intended. Please see the seriousness of these risks. We must be very careful what we adopt as law; a return to McCarthyism and secret homeland surveillance commissions is not the direction we should take as a nation. We must learn from history and strike a balance of protecting civil liberties and our citizens from extremism, whether it be religious or political.

This bill is an act of treason against the will of the People and against the foundation of the United States. Whenever there is conflict there are always small groups of people to impose oppression upon the masses and small groups of people to fight it; while the majority of people sit on the sidelines. This time I see a lot of people on the side of truth. We may all wind up in FEMA camps in the near future but too many people know what is happening right now in this country who are patriots and wont be on the sidelines this time around.

Mike: You are exactly correct in calling it the beginning of the "New World Order". It has been on the books since the 1980s. In order to create the "New World Order", the US government requested Rand Corporation to devise three strategies for controlling the American populace after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The three strategies devised were fighting terrorism, global warming, and fear of biochemical warfare. All three of these ideas have been gaining mass popularity since the Clinton presidency, and have reached the pinnacle under Bush and the US Congress. So now we know that Al Qaeda and terrorism are a figment of our imagination, and media blitzkrieg. One further note, the World Bank is slated to run the "New World Order". This information is well documented and can be researched on the web.

Thomas Jefferson once said that a revolution every 20 years is not such a bad idea for maintaining a democracy, and maybe that is what we need.

This country is a Constitutional Republic not a Monarchy! We are, A REPUBLIC! The Constitution affords us UNALIENABLE RIGHTS. That means we can say whatever it is we want EVEN if it offends someone. IF we take that away, are rights are then subject to the interpretation of whatever charter or commission has been given review over it! THIS IS AMERICA NOT THE EUROPEAN UNION! For even suggesting to implement law that undermines the Constitution in such a manner should be treason against America.

During the 60's there were radical groups. Such as Weather Underground and others. There were adequate laws and means to handle these groups. This bill is not needed if all that is in mind is to protect and preserve our way of life, the rule of law and the constitution. If however, this bill is to as some say be a means to silence thought and freedom than its purpose will be served and is in no way serving democracy.

To the last guy: We need veterans like you to speak up and speak out! You guys have a lot more impact on things like this, especially to the average person. Most people in this country are kept under a blanked of ignorance to things like this. A lot of them consider themselves patriotic and believe me, they will listen to a veteran.

This bill really frightens me. I can't believe it actually passed the House. Why the hell aren't people making more of an effort to stop this!?

Maybe we should check the voting record on this bill and start massive re-call petitions against those who voted for it. Re-call works,I know, we did it in Nevada against a sheriff. Every elected official is subject to recall by the people. It is we who have the power, but you got to get off the couch. Power conceds nothing without demand. We don't demand it, power will not conceed it. It our petitions state all the reasons why we are recalling them... st the same time they are recalled we need to strip them of their pay and perks. They have betrayed their public trust and committed treason to the Constitution. I think it was Will Rogers who said, "It canprobbly be proved by facts and figures that there is no disticntly native criminal class, except Congress". Slogan for 2008....."Recall em-All"!!!

Gene,

That sounds like a plan, but unfortunately the majority of Americans seem to be completely ignorant to whats going on. They are too busy watching American Idol or finding out the latest on Brittney Spears while their freedom and civil liberties are about to be stripped away...

It's sad.

From the first line: To prevent homegrown terrorism, and for other purposes.

"...and for other purposes." bothers me highly. You'd think terseness would be practice in Congress.

It was only a matter of time before questioning the official version of the Holocaust (aka Holocaust Denial) was made illegal in the US. This bill does it.

Good to see so many folks posting here! Yes it's time to organize, picket, complain, go out into the Constitutionally-protected Free Speech Venues and do what the Founders did! Not with cursing and foul language! In every city, fed-up folks can meet regularly in front of capitols, courthouses, anywhere policy is decided in your town, until a consensus arises! How do you think this became America to begin with? In kitchens, meeting houses, shops across the land, people talked. And read. And came to inescapable conclusions. There are, thank GOD, millions of upset citizens. Get out there and let's find some answers! Refusing to vote & saying so publically may be a good start! No WAY do I trust this system anymore!

Al Qaeda is a creation of the CIA. If any terrorists do exist they are employed by CIA, MI5, KGB, Mossad etc. Wake up people before it's too late.

The truth has to be said. We need to start organizing to fight against those that are ripping our Constitution away. We the people hold the power, and the time to act is upon us all. They want us to be pre-occupied about our finances, and to worry. They forgot that we, the true Americans, have always rose to the call. I hear those trumpets sounding Ladies and Gentlemen, and if you agree don't be afraid to sound off. Local organized Militias might be the only hope.

I wrote my senator, his reply was basically, "it's been withdrawn, it's not going to the senate, don't worry about it". All the status updates say this has been referred to committees. Does this mean it's just going to be reworded and sent again to the senate? I'm also completely baffled by the distinction between 1955 & 1959.

I can't believe my eyes!!! If anyone with half a brain would read the bill, you can see that it simply establishes a Commission to study and report on what they perceive as acts of terrorism. The report is given to the president for any further action that may be taken. The commission has no prosecutorial power or authority. The "terrorists" are those who have delineated their thoughts and concerns here in this forum with but one intention...to scare the hell out of people who are slaves to the printed word. Seeing it in print doesn't make it so. Come on American sheep!! Have a mind and read for yourself.

The more I read this page, the more I wish that I could take each and every one of these gratuitous statements and reply to the author directly. They sound like they are ALREADY in the concentration camps. Have a little faith in your own intuition, I am especially disturbed by the young writers I have encountered here. It is depressing. Don't they have any self motivated thought processes? If I continue reading this drivel, I will probably have a breakdown from depression. Wake up America is the theme I hear most. Well, I too, would command Wake up America. Wake up to those who would try to tear down the very fabric upon which this great nation was founded. You want to help? Get back to values, religion (any denomination), family and all that was near and dear to the hearts of the founding fathers. For that matter, not that long ago...to MY father. Yours, too probably. Do not despair. This too shall pass.

According to this bill the Bush Administration might be in violation of this very act the senate has passed: "prevention of violent radicalization (an extremist belief system for facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change)" Wow! This is exactly what this administration is doing to spread supposed freedom across the globe!!!
