Please join in this fight and contact Speaker John Boehner at 202-225-6205 to let him know that this bill needs to be passed immediately!

I'm sending this message to all the unemployed viewers out there,

We need your help now. This is literally our last chance to get a little more help from our government to survive on. You know the jobs situation...

Many of our old warriors have gone offline because of no money. Some have passed on...

Many of us are tired, and feel like giving up. We feel like the battle is hopeless after all we have been through...

Many of us are middle aged, including myself, and....don't want to have to fight anymore.

Unfortunately the situation that we were thrown into leaves us with few choices now. Stand up and fight for what we deserve, and believe in, or lay down and die.

We can see the people of Egypt doing it on our news all day...

Do I need to remind you that we are Americans, and all the things we fought for?

It is time to put all the party affiliations aside and remember that we are all "We The People". There are many Democrat and Republican unemployed and homeless now...

It is time for ALL to step up to the plate. Those of us whose words you read online can not win this alone.

If you never posted anything online before, now is the time to jump in. We all did it once.

Stand up and fight, or lay down and die. The choice is yours.

It has been three years of fighting for me, but I will NOT lay down and die EVER!

I hope you viewers will join us. We need you!

This is our final stand!

Democrats challenge Republicans: extend lifeline to 99ers

Lee said she and co-author Scott are arguing "this is an emergency" in order to exempt the legislation from Congress' pay-as-you-go requirements. But, short of that, they are discussing with the Obama administration and House Democratic leaders other ways to make up the estimated $14 to $16 billion needed, according to Josh Richman of the Bay Area News Group.

This bill will be another media attempt to say I tried. It doesn't have a chance, UNLESS WE the 99ers, send our so called allies, the Demacrats, a message,(FIND A WAY TO PAY FOR IT)!! This is the message we need to send. The demacrats never have even tried to find a way to even off set any unemployment bill. This is the real problem we are facing!!! And by the way, don't let the trolls get you down, they don't know or care for that matter, that the truth of the matter is That the longer we are out of work the longer it will take! It is a fact that Employers are going to hire people who have been out of work 6 months or less, they don't want people that have been out of the loop longer than 6 months. And employers don't have the tax breaks they want to do so!! Unless your extremely qualified for the job, your not going to get it. One of the other 100 that applied who has only been out of work for less than 6 months is going to. sorry but its just a fact.

I do agree with some things from this author...

Every once in a while it becomes necessary to attack the false left-right paradigm in order to keep the lie it represents front and center in the minds of those the propagandists seek to control. I’m sure every 99er would agree that jobs and unemployment are for the majority the number one issue in the U.S. today. However the will of the majority is subservient to the interests of the rich.

The Demopublicans have historically sold themselves as proponents of the working man and the poor, whereas the Republicrats claim corporations and the rich as their own. The fact is they all defecate through the same hole and the American workers et.al. are spoon fed what comes out. As the fact that we are losing more jobs every day is being ignored out of hand, the one party socialist system is busy catering to their fellow filthy rich.

(logged-in user) February 14, 2011, 8:37am (report abuse)

Wouldn’t it seem that the Demopublicans and Republicrats are in complete agreement when it comes to exporting our jobs and industry for the benefit of the filthy rich?

..Today we must fight as if our lives depended on it because they do...

2011 unemployment extension for 99ers - has dozens of co-sponsors in House

An unemployment extension for the 99ers is desperately needed as 35,000 unemployed Americans reach the end of their unemployment benefits each week. This is 140,000 people a month that fall into the newest and one of the fastest growing populations in the US. This population is the 99ers, or long term unemployed who have exhausted their benefits. This very frightening, often depression provoking new reality eventually is topped off with a feeling of hopelessness for millions.

Yeah Patriots. I saw today where China is now the second largest economy taking the spot from Japan. The Japanese think it will be less than twenty years before China takes the number one spot from us! Change is a commin!!!!

Unemployment benefits extension for 99ers, there are more backers now and it seems that finally things may fall in place for disappointed people.

There is good news for the 99ers. It is understood that the new bill is on its way to provide additional unemployment benefits to 99ers. Workers who have exhausted all available benefits will now have 60 cosponsors. This has been confirmed by an unemployment advocate.

The bill is being named H.R. 589. It is an Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act of 2011. Its biggest attraction is that it would provide 14 additional weeks of benefits. Workers who have exhausted their benefits will benefit the most from it.

On Wednesday, the bill was introduced in Congress by Representative Barbara Lee (D - CA). Once that was done, it was then referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means. At the time when it was introduced it had 47 sponsors. Most of them were Democrats.

(logged-in user) February 14, 2011, 10:09am (report abuse)

However, with Republicans majority in the House it needs their support to get passed. Scott Clark, who has for the moment taken over leadership of the advocacy group formed by Michael Koliss, said: "All Americans are being asked to stand up and contact their representative in both the House and the Senate to make sure that they are aware that we support this legislation and want it passed into law as quickly as possible."

At the press conference Gerry DePietro , a 99er, said: "I realized there were people out there so much worse off than me and since I still had Internet access, I was going to 'climb on board' as they say."

2011 Unemployment Extension - H.R. 589 - Beat'em to Death with the Cold Hard Facts!

Facts Versus Empty Rhetoric

Those that wish to continue with their empty rhetoric that the long term unemployed are not deserving of additional relief at this time because it is just too expensive or that we just can't afford it, or that it is just not deserved, continue to miss one simple and logical connection. Those that stick to their beliefs that continued defense spending and fighting the war on terrorism are more important than keeping our citizens alive miss this step in the analytical process - spending all of this money to protect ourselves from terrorist while letting millions of our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, parents, children, wallow in abject poverty instead with the constant threat of death due to indigence and homelessness is simply not logical. All this money to protect people that we are slowly killing anyway?

I was thinking about the people of Egypt, and what they accomplished, and I know one of the main reasons they protested was high unemployment. I decided to research what their unemployment rate is. After hearing some on our news talk about their terribly high unemployment rate I expected it to be around 25 to 30% at least.

I was shocked to find out that it was only 8.4% in 2009 and 9.4% in 2010.

That was enough for them to kick their (dictatorship) government to the curb...

Deep Proposed Budget Cuts Would Weaken Programs Targeted to Low-Income Older Americans

For older adults aged 55-64, who cannot yet claim Social Security, the loss of this program could be particularly devastating. According to data from the U.S. Department of Labor, older workers who have lost a job are more likely than any other age group to face very long-term unemployment and remain jobless for 99 weeks or more.

When a country is in peril, are the so-called leaders not at fault? And since there are only TWO reasons for the chaos that this country is in; either ineptitude, or corruption, what purpose do these politicians serve?

Since our nation is supposed to be run by its citizens, then it's time us citizens started improving matters on our own. Let's come up with an amended constitution--one that limits the potential of corruption, one that actually serves the interest of its TRUE patriots/citizens. The middle-income group is the backbone of this country; it always has been. And for the hard work our population has done, what have to show for it? Cults dictating how much extra we pay for a gallon of gas, the bailing out of businesses, corporate pillagers, that will continue to stick it to the people they stole from, and whose tax dollars were used to bail them out. SERIOUSLY? There are countless people out there that can’t fathom a change of such great magnitude. Egypt anyone?

Out Of 400 Amendments, Just One For The Jobless

Of the 403 amendments submitted to a stopgap budget measure to fund the government through the rest of the current fiscal year, only one mentions the word "unemployment."

Legislation by Reps. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Bobby Scott (R-Va.) would provide an additional 14 weeks of benefits to Americans who have been out of work for six months or longer. Lee and Scott asked Republican leaders to consider the measure as an amendment to their "continuing resolution," the budget measure that funds the government through Sept. 30, the end of the current fiscal year.

Many of the 400 amendments will be pulled, but if the Lee-Scott item is deemed germane by the Rules Committee, it will see a vote on the House floor.

A Disillusioned 99'er Shares His Disappointment With The American Dream, Welcomes Death

"Mark", a member of the ever growing cadre of disillusioned, disenchanted and disgruntled millions of American unemployed, has written a letter shared by A Company of One, in which he explains the plight of 99'ers (those whose extended unemployment benefits are set to expire) in which he chronicles his plight and his terminal disappointment with the American system. One can only imagine how all the "99'ers" would feel if they did not have the benefit of living at least partially subsidized for 2 years in the socialist state of America. If Bahrain is any indication, where the government's attempt to purchase the love of its people just failed today, pretty soon not even the 99 weeks of EUCs will do much to suppress what is an unmistakably rising anger among the broad US population.

99erAID offers a Blueprint for Unemployment Activists

Last night I learned a lesson of great value: You can’t steer a hurricane.

What began as a simple idea matured into an event of great ambition last night on social media, aided by a small army of 99ers and advocates who spent great time and effort spreading the word and a few members of the media like Nicole Sandler, and CNN's Ali Velshi who were also instrumental.

It truly was well organized chaos. A chaos that perhaps put some off. I know as pseudo “Moderator” my game plan became hopelessly altered forcing me to abandon my prepared questions and dive into the free range madness of these tweets that were coming across my screen in bushels.

I winged it basically, but after going back through the rapid fire yet respectful discussion I learned much and feel that I can ably summarize.

First, we are all on the same page.

February 17, 2011, 12:30am (report abuse)

The Democrats and Republicans in Congress are really out of touch. First thing they need to do is REVISE the unemployment calculations !

The reason why we are going under is lack of Technology. We need more Technology ..

TechnoStagnation Mr. Boehner ! and the rest of you good people in Congress ...

The American people need to put down the TV Guide and pick up a Math book. Technology will stop inflation, and make abundance for all.

With Technology we can pay off the deficit and feed all Americans...

It's time Congress, It's time Mr. President, It's time to bring back the Space program. Just like under Kennedy !

But in the interim we need to eat ... so how about some meager unemp so I can pay my Rent and buy some dry beans to eat ? I soak 'em overnite, then quick boil for 15 minutes, drain the water, rinse and then put 'em in a crock pot for 6 hours with cut up veggies /onions,garlic.

February 17, 2011, 12:47am (report abuse)

That's what I've been eating for the past month, Money is tight ! I got the idea from Ben Franklin's Autobiography. Ben saved money on food by boiling/cooking vegetables. Skipping the meat saves money.

The difference between Ben Franklin and how I cook them is TECHNOLOGY. I use a Crock Pot ! I don't have to watch a burning flame to heat/cook my food like Ben did ...

Yes I do eat out ! I buy a Side Salad at Burger King (1 dollar) and a value soda (1 dollar) weekly. That's my treat for the week. I bring a can of Tuna Fish (packed in Oil ! not Water !) and open it up right there in the restaurant. I dumped the contents right on top of the side salad ...

I call it "The Franklin RESTAURANT Meal" because it cost less than 3 bucks ...

Or I'll go to Taco Bell and order one of their 2 dollar meals.

Before I was unemployed I would spend 15 dollars and eat out once a week at Chili's, TGIF, Ponderosa, AppleBees etc ...

AppleBees,Ponderosa went out of business here.

February 17, 2011, 12:57am (report abuse)

I'm pushing 49 years ! But I started reading "Algebra for Dummies 1" and am solving problems in the workbook. Technology will get me out of this mess, and also by God's grace !

It's tough learning, I've been unemployed for so long, my Doctor put me on Effexor medication to calm me down. The learning process is slow ....

My wife is working retail and brings home about $1000/month. I'm under her medical plan. She is a good woman and very patience. She got sick last year .. We still owe the hospital another thousand dollars ...

These are the times 20% of us are in most need.

Here is the video from last night (technically this morning's) goings-on on the House floor.

Barbara Lee's section begins on the video around 12:45. I contacted her office this morning. They clarified that there was both a bill and an amendment for H.R. 589. With the amendment being ruled against procedurally, the only hope we have is to still get the bill shoved out of Ways and Means and onto floor debate.

One further comment--on the video, don't miss Rep. Jerry Nadler's (D-NY, 8th District) amazing comments starting around 13:00. That man was so spot-on it's not even funny.
