Summary

The Aurora Campus for Renewable Energy (ACRE) will provide a major new research facility for renewable energy in the Rocky Mountain region. This project seeks to be one of the world's largest renewable energy test and evaluation facilities. Six major private and public entities, including Abengoa Solar, the City of Aurora, Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory, Midwest Research Institute, SunEdison, and Xcel, have signed an agreement to be partners in this research venture. ACRE will be the source of a wholly new economic development opportunity for the region. It will have test facilities and manufacturing operations. The requested funds will create approximately 20 construction jobs, and the Park may be the catalyst for as many as 5000 renewable energy related jobs. The funds requested would be used to create the necessary infrastructure; specifically, it would be devoted to the installation of a 5-mile water pipeline from the existing system to the site. The planning stage is complete, and work can begin with the receipt of fund for construction. This funding request is through the EPA State and Tribal Grant (STAG) Program and requires a 45% cost share. Funding for this project is in the interest of taxpayers because the campus will contribute to job creation and economic growth in the region.
