January 24, 2009, 2:40pm (report abuse)This is the beginning of the onslaught to take away our citizenship and turn us into "subjects" of the powers that be! I will not only do the 2 to 5 , but I will fight to the death before I let them STEAL anymore of my right!

January 25, 2009, 3:53pm (report abuse)Someone needs to knock some sense into Holts head! If this bill passes, it will be just one more step in taking law abiding citizens guns. Take a look at what happened in the UK. If you don't write your congressmen and tell everyone to get on the band wagon, it won't be long until the government has our weapons. I have already written my Congressman.

January 25, 2009, 10:06pm (report abuse)Another in many new steps coming to shackle the free. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS. This right shall not be infringed!! Why do you suppose it was the 2nd ammendment. Take heed as we are headed for a civil war. God Bless

January 26, 2009, 11:36am (report abuse)This bill is expensive, impracticle and won't work to decrease gun violence - the people who use guns to kill others are the ones who will not liscence their guns at all. This bill will cause nothing but increased cost for taxpayers and should be stopped immediately.

January 27, 2009, 11:04am (report abuse)First trial balloon of many. My trump card is "If gun control stops gun ownership, then out law crack and pot etc." Obviously it does not work. if guns are hard to get or outlawed, you can buy them from the local crack dealer.

January 27, 2009, 1:37pm (report abuse)Free the terrorists, round up the law abiding gun owners! Hail to Obama!

January 27, 2009, 7:50pm (report abuse)I have mixed feelings about this one. I'm under the impression that the people who use guns to commit crimes usually don't own the gun legally. I'm all for licensing and background checks as a form of gun control, but let's be reasonable here: crack down on illegal gun ownership, not all gun ownership.
Bob
January 28, 2009, 3:30am (report abuse)Outrageous enough to fire up the entire gun community.
What we need is a counter bill that will eliminate all restrictive state laws on CCW.

When our comfort zone is exceeded--By then it may be to late--Remember--Hitler--1st control education--2nd dissarm the public--We still have the power of the vote so vote those politicians out that do not represent the "Will of the People"--Before we lose that right too--

January 28, 2009, 5:54pm (report abuse)Don't blame this on Obama because that's just a lazy mans cop out. These tards have been trying to take our guns for years and will continue without end. We just have to keep fighting them. Be sure to write your state senators. How many people complaining here don’t have their NRA membership card. It’s like the lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play.

January 29, 2009, 3:10pm (report abuse)Rep. Rush has violated his oath of office. "To protect and defend" the Constitution of the United States of America. It is interesting that the Military take the oath to "protect and defend against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC," but congress just says they will protect the Constitution. Says something to their focus.

January 30, 2009, 8:07am (report abuse)The 2nd Amendment was intended to protect the citizenry FROM an overreaching and oppressive Government. January 30, 2009, 10:37am (report abuse)The problem with this is if they try and get away with licensing fire arms, it will be the beginning of the end for other freedoms that we have,. I suppose the local "gang banger" is going to get his firearm licensed? Fat freakin' chance

January 30, 2009, 1:43pm (report abuse)I strongly oppose this HR45 Blair Holt bill. Register today, tomorrow Demorcrats disarm the entire US poulation. In the 1930, when assuming power and creating a facist state, Hitler was a proponent of strong gun control laws, because a disarmed populance is much easier to control than an armed one. Even Kings of old outlawed weapons of any kind in the region that was conquered to quell the ability of citizens to up rise against them. That is the reason the founders put in the 2nd Amemdent, to guard against such a disarming. I am sorry that this young man was killed, so why don't congressman Rush take the indivual who committed this crime, the one who has killing in his heart to task.
Martin
January 30, 2009, 6:10pm (report abuse)Rep Rush have you heard of the US Constitution-- you know that thing you swore to defend when you took office. People it is time to get these people out of office, recall them - go to their public meeting and confront them. Whenever a politician violates his oath he needs to feel the heat! We - ie the guy in the mirror you see in the morning needs to protect the Constitution, it should be blatantly obvious that the corts and the politicians are not going to! Get active get involved! The founders fought and died for us, the least we can do is go to a couple of meetings.
smeg
January 30, 2009, 11:16pm (report abuse)Part of the problem is that many lawmakers and courts treat the language of the second amendment as if it is flexible/open to interpretation, or they try to find loopholes around the language. For example, some states (CA, MA, MD, and a few others if I recall correctly) tried to tax ammunition so that it would be ridiculously expensive to exercise the right to keep and bear arms- if you can't afford bullets it's the same as disarming you, but since they weren't going to confiscate any guns they supposedly weren't infringing on the second amendment. Fortunately, last I had heard, these blatant attempts to back-door the constitution had failed.
To all the police/ex-police and military/ex-military people reading or commenting here, thank you for all you do/have done to protect us and our freedoms.

January 30, 2009, 11:54pm (report abuse)They're poking the hornets nest, trying to see just how many pokes it takes to get it stirred up. They want to USE the chaos they are creating, people, it's part of the grand scheme. Don't do anything rash until you know what it leads to and how to stop THAT. Know what you're up against. I never thought I'd live to see the time the world turns upside down but we've got a huge mess right now...the Founders must be angrily and sadly shaking their heads at us and their fists at the monster we've created. These fools have bunkers underground for themselves and FEMA camps and foreign military on our doorstep for us. The sad thing is, there's no outside force to come help us as we've always done for everyone else. They know that of course, and the media has made us look TERRIBLE to other countries anyway. "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." No Constitution=a nation full of us outlaws! Thanks to you guys for making me feel less alone and utterly hopeless.

January 31, 2009, 7:18pm (report abuse)The Bill is not intended to provide any additional safety to the public but is a method of locating all guns and gun owners in the country. It is in opposition to several State Laws that allow (under Aduly Supervision) for youth under 18 to hunt.

February 1, 2009, 10:46am (report abuse)Mr.Rush, are you really that nieve to think that the two who shot and killed young Blair Holt, will submitt to the Washington data base their drivers license, social security numbers, along with their finger prints, address, and register their firearm serial #, to the data base. Kain killed his brother Able with a club. Kain had hatered and killing in his heart. Your licenseing bill would not have prevented Kain and the two who took the life of young Blair Holt.

February 1, 2009, 12:53pm (report abuse)I have long stated that this government was becoming the "Fourth Reich". If this passes, the next step will be the imprisonment, and possible execution, of those unwilling to give up their arms or their right to bear arms.
Seems to me that people misunderstood Pres. Obama-bin-Laden when he mentioned change.
He didn't say "change", he said "Chains". The kind of chains used to hold and restrain an American populace that still believe in the founding principles of this nation.

February 1, 2009, 4:14pm (report abuse)I especially like the comments referring to the Tree of Liberty being refreshed. February 1, 2009, 4:16pm (report abuse)I'm a small business owner as well as gun advocate. When an employee steals from the company or consistently doesn't do the job they were hired, I fire them. As a tax payer, I'm ready to ban with other small business owners and taxpayers and stop paying taxes to the federal government. All three of the federal branches would get the message that they are consistently NOT doing their job.

February 2, 2009, 9:42am (report abuse)75% of violent crimes involve no gun at all. 90% of all the guns in the U.S. will never be involved in a crime. Assault weapons are involved in only 1.7% of all gun crimes. Politicians never let a little thing like statistical facts get in the way of their ideology or agenda.

February 2, 2009, 4:04pm (report abuse)Geez...do I get this right on Page 19 line 6:
"It shall be unlawful for any person to keep a loaded firearm or an unloaded firearm and ammunition for the firearm if:
(Line 23)
Knows or reasonably should know that possession of the firearm by a child is unlawful under Federal or State Law
hmmm...that appears to say that if you have a child in your home, that you cannot keep a loaded firearm or ammunition anywhere in your house unless it is in a gun safe at ANY Time. I can hear my Wife now..."Honey I hear something downstairs, can you make it to the gun safe, enter the combination, unlock the gun lock, find the ammunition clip, fill it with ammo, and take care of this situation".
I'm sure the armed person who has just entered my house has no idea what HR-45 is or even cares.... what a farce!

February 2, 2009, 7:51pm (report abuse)Guns are what have kept people from the violent invasion of the United States(even though American jobs have been invaded from with mexican citizens).
Who in their right mind would invade the United States, knowing that American citizens have firearms and have a right to defend themselves.....or at least for the time being. People need to get away from the Television and start paying attention to the "WOOL" that is slowly being pulled over the american citizens eyes. What makes anyone think that a criminal wont commit a crime to get guns. THEY ARE CRIMINALS for the love of PETE! THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. I am in the process of getting a concealed weapons permit, and if I have to use the gun against a CRIMINAL who WILL get a gun no matter how they go about it, who starts shooting and killing people. I would like to be able to save a life or two. Instead of everyone standing around waiting to get shot at. We are slowly seuing ourselves into Communism!

February 3, 2009, 2:47am (report abuse)People, wake up! We are talking to ourselves, it the Prozac-induced morons who vote that need to be awakened. How many millions of firearms are out there? Can all of those undereducated, overpaid, neanderthalic robots called "cops" really take them back? I like many other true Americans have no place to go for a new home. I am a Native American(not in the Indian sense), I was born here. There is not one country in existence I can live in, except the United States of America. Regarding Blubbering Bobby Rush, google that crack smoking moron and see just what a fecal pile he has been all of his meager time on earth. Blubbering Bobby is a complete illiterate, however, what is more scary is the morons who continue to reelect him year after year, says alot for Chicago. I wonder if Obama really thinks he can deceive Americans, like Chavez does in Venezuela, without starting a revolution Not in his favor? Here in the People's Democratic Republik of Kalifornia things are ripe for the picking.

February 3, 2009, 7:34am (report abuse)Lets see if History can teach us anything: Hitler invades Poland 1939. Requires gun registration and them confiscates the guns.
In 1921 Hitler starts up his own "police force" (Sturm Abteilung) also known as Brownshirts. Like a civilian security or task force.
Why does all of this sound soooo familiar? Cant put my finger on it but it will come to me (probably in the middle of the night, in a violent torrent)
Good luck America and stay active.

Why stop with firearms? Let's really take a bold step and enforce the laws the all knowing, all seeing legislators have already passed. Put some criminals in prisons that are intended to punish, instead of educate them how to be better felons. Start holding parents accountable for what their little gang banger children are out doing and I think they'll probably find a way to keep track of the little dears.

February 4, 2009, 9:55am (report abuse)There is a private property owner in Europe currently imprisoned for a longer sentence than the criminal who broke into his farmhouse because he shot the intruder, which was against the law since he was not allowed to bear a firearm.
