Costing Out Cap-and-Trade

Last week, the Congressional Budget Office issued a cost estimate for H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. The bill would establish not one, but two “cap-and-trade” programs designed to limit the release of undesir...

Climategate!

The allegation that climate scientists sought to suppress research questioning some of their findings has sent shock waves around the world. Sort of. Well, that’s hyperbole, like the name “Climategate” is. But in case you hadn’t...

pk. at the top of the comments for this bill is a website. go to it and see what is all about. 38,000 scientists have signed that petition against the findings for global warming. do you have any proof that the computer models were fed the correct info, or even programmed properly to come up with a completely unbiased report? do you have any evidence that the coal and oil companies have bought off scientists to say global warming does not exist? How do you know green investors didn't control the model predictions? see what happened to wall street by congressional meddling, could it be the same thing here? did you check out the website for the communist party of the USA? who benefits the most from the passage of this bill? certainly not the citizens of this country. connect the dots, pk, they lead to the truth about this bill. power for the people who want to bring this nation down. check it out.

It has many of the answers you are looking for, as for the previous site, I see nothing that leads me to believe that that site is reputable unlike the thousands and close of scientists around the globe who say the warming is occurring. Also oil and coal have much more at stake than a few start up green companies, they will do all in their power to stop the green movement from coming with all their might. Also, as for who has stuff at stake, I certainly do as I want to be able to live on this planet for as long as I can and don't want it polluted and deprived for the future generations who were never able to see a specific animal simply because a heated and warming planet drove that animal to extinction.

pk. been there, done that. did not find irrefutable evidence that the planet is in dire trouble, any more than it has been since it formed. so, lets have you go check out the other side of the debate. try these out at snopes.us
once there look for the ice sheet report, past the usual useless crap. check it out, you might be amazed at the credentials of the people doing the research and their findings. give a shot. might be illuminating. warning, may not agree with your guys.

snopes.us? All I got was one of those random sites that you get when you misspell something. So can't say anything except I know many other reputable sources saying ice sheets are melting.

Believe what you will but the majority of the world and the scientists say something is going wrong and that this planet could have a dire future unless the planet's people act against the threat. I don't know about you but I want to have a planet that is filled with lush green forests, blue oceans, and animals and life of all types, I want to be able to live with the knowledge that this planet will be habitable and that I can live on it without fear of my own climate. Believe what you will but I will fight to make sure that this planet is healthy and that future generations of people might live on this planet and have a good life and I don't want to be know as part of the generation that could have done something but instead did nothing. I want healing to come to this planet and we must change our ways just enough so that the Earth might be saved along with the rest of the people on the planet. Technologically we are able to act, politically we are inept to act fast enough.

pk. just tried the site. got it. Of course, if you are not interested in the truth, or the other side of the debate and the facts, then you stick with your guys. The majority of the world and the scientists are pretty much seeing what "global warming/climate change" advocates are all about. Taxes and power. Why do you think Gore is all for it? He and the financial system are gearing up to sell "carbon credits" to industries that just have to "pollute" to produce. Of course, if there were CO2 pollution. Once again, pk, listen close. The agenda is taxes and power for the very, very so-called elite. It has nothing or very little to do with "saving" the planet. Both websites I gave you are reputable, they just don't agree with what you "believe". Did you go to the website for the communist party USA and timeline of the actions of the Obama administration? Of course, maybe you are a "progressive" and like the idea of everything being run by the government. How sad.

pk

Have you seen where the money is going to go with portions of it going back to the people as a result of the carbon cap and trade. Also all I here is 'Al Gore this and Al Gore that' and of course the financial system is getting ready for it because they anticipate, that's how they make money, they see the incoming tsunami. Maybe those people are not doing it to save the planet but one way or another they are saving the planet and no I am not a progressive I am a moderate and am actually somewhat conservative except here. The environment is something we cannot just waste and expect to be there constantly. Also look at this site as it overrides half the arguments on the snopes.us site you sent me

Only half? Didn't see that much in the article which would refute the findings. As part of the cycle of the planet, cooling and warming, this just goes towards proving that whatever is going on is not controlled nor affected by man and his machines. There is very little evidence, not theory, which points to man having any effect on when the planet cools or warms. The geological records suggest that the planet does this on a rather regular basis over the millions of years it has been around. The present cooling trend began in 1998 and continues to this day. Check the weather in Europe over that period of time and you'll find that recent winters have been unusually cold there. There is also the axis of the planet as it spins. You do realize that the earth does not spin perfectly up and down? It actually spins more like a top, sort of wobbly, over a period of time thereby having different effects on the climate of places on the earth. Never quite the same every year.

There is eveidence that points to humanity as being the prime suspect for climate change this drastic. With the Europe thing, its called Thermohaline circulation, like a giant conveyor belt it moves water and temperatures all across the globe. As the water heats up it increases salinity due to evaporation, becomes dense, sinks, and cools and so Europe is just a bit cooler as a result of a small change in temperatures. Also the cycles are called Milankovitch cycles and haven't been seen to be a much of a problem and I do know that the planet spins like a top with a slight angle, I learned that in grade school.

PK - Do not understand your zealousness for the bill. You've admitted that it was imperfect and plenty of us has provided pently of reasons why this will punish American citizens and US businesses through needless taxes.
I don't understand why anyone honestly believes that a 17% reduction in CO2 over 10 years will do anything to affect supposed "climate change". If manmade CO2 were the cause, the only way to correct it would be to kill off a few million people, cease all manufacturing, kill off all internal combustion engines and replant several thousand acres of rainforest... In about 100 years, we might be back to the climate and CO2 levels before the industrial revolution.

This bill isn't about solutions, it's about extracting more moeny out of the private sector. Economies cannot be manufactured.

There is absolutely no proof that the earth is warming. Even if it was, what is so bad about that? It would mean longer growing seasons and more food to feed the world. This "ca and trade" bill will do nothing except increase unemployment, push us all to live according to government rules ( drive cars we don't want, set our thermostats to whatever the govenment says to, ext ) and it will cost a fortune. Call your congressman and tell them not to pass this ridiculous legislation. We must stop the government from intruding into our lives. We will no longer live free if we don't stop Obama and these power hungry liberals. Make your voices heard before it is too late.

I can't find anything in this pie in the sky bill that describes how these imaginary results are to be measured. Carbon dioxide is only 0.0383% or earth's atmosphere. When working with such vast measurement areas and such miniscule ammounts, accurate results are difficult to obtain unless you're a politician being fed faulty and sometimes deliberately altered data. The levels of tonnage as calculated to be used as the tax basis couldn't stand the scrutiny of factual scientific scrutiny.

There is so much proof are you kidding me?!?!?! What have I been saying my past posts and so many others to back it up. As for forcing us the bill doesn't force us it suggests us to lower our thermostats via the power companies through the smartgrid. As for the cost of cap and trade the bill outlines that the cap and trade would be for the benefit of the customer and should not be passed on directly to the customer. Groups like AARP and others are urging the Senate for stricter policies on this. Prices will in general go up because of fuel prices and replacement for the equipment on the grid. These results are also measured by facilities across the world including satellites, ground based, and sea based stations operated by many groups from universities to governments, and research groups.

My concern is that there is nothing in our Constitution that grants Congress the authority to even consider a bill such and this.

The power to decide issues concerning interstate commerce of any kind, is reserved for the individual State governments.

It would be nice if our Representatives would at least make an attempt to uphold their oath to support and be loyal to our Constitution!

I don't think people will comply with such a bill, particularly since the huge polluters are the open pit mines, getting oil from shale and failing to learn how to use hydrogen for cars.

The American people in general will not stand for such a jolt. Unless the govt. confiscates my house because I refuse to spend thousands to do little good, I will simply stay where I am until our outlandishly stupid government comes to its senses. Real Estate Brokers beware! You may lose 75% of your business.

The media (mouthpiece of corporate America)has succeeded in polarizing the American people on these issues. Meanwhile, the government has another agenda. I would be interested in hearing from the science side of EMF pollution and how it is changing our weather patterns. There is never only one cause of anything. PK? Any info?
