November 17, 2009, 12:55am (report abuse)This bill is long overdue. These Filipino veterans fought for the United States during WWII, under General Douglas MacArthur. At that time, certain promises were made to these veterans by President Franklin Roosevelt, and Gen MacArthur, which were subsequently broken, once hostilies had ceased. Nearly 60 years after the war, when very few Filipino veterans remained alive, these benefits, such as U.S. Citizenship were restored, however these remaining veterans are now so feeble and sickly that they cannot relocate to the States, without their children to look after them. Therefore U.S. Citizenship is an empty gesture.
