October 14, 2009, 7:15pm (report abuse)Please support this bill. This will help save money and bring families together. I think all non violent offenders need a second chance. Everybody in this world is capable of doing things wrong, but what would be of us if we didnt give second chances. Federal prisons are only separating families and we cant let that happend for the sake of the children. Please support this bill.

October 15, 2009, 10:11pm (report abuse)Roxana you are right. This bill will help folks get an early release and I strongly support it. However if you also feel strongly about giving the same folks a real second chance, I invite you to go back to the list of bills, find H.R.1529, read through the post where among other things, you will find information about joining a support HR1529 group on Yahoo. we would welcome your support and input

November 4, 2009, 8:39pm (report abuse)To BB -- You see alot of our loved ones have already paid for the crime that was committed. These judges go above and beyond their limits when handing out sentences. No one really understands this until you are in put in a position where you loose your loved to the Federal System.

November 7, 2009, 9:10pm (report abuse)I can't speak for the violent or the nonviolent or the type crime. In the States, there are many types of crimes but The State times is less than federal time. Please support the bill for H.R. 1474and H.R.61. Lets be fair

November 8, 2009, 1:45pm (report abuse)I'm all for this bill because everyone deserves a second chance everyone makes mistakes everyone should be able to have the chance to learn from them, but without given the chance how do you know.We are all human that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be given the chance to show that we can make a difference. My ex-husband is doing time right now,but I know that he's learnt from the consequences that he has been given,I know that there are others just like him that if just given the chance then they would succeed so please consider this bill not just for us,but for other families also thank you.Together we all can make a differnce!!!!!

November 12, 2009, 9:20pm (report abuse)This was the cause for the civil war,Not slavery. Each state has the right to have the death penalty or not as well as control sentences and their terms and conditions. I have a child who was a victim of molestation by a repeat offender who received only 1 year. What we need are better judges who do not give harsher punishments to one individual because his crime was against someone of stature, and slap the wrist of a repeat offender because the parents had no money or stature. Change the system so that we can throw worthless judges out and you will solve the problem as far as the majority rules means nothing syndrome that plagues our nation.
Think about it, the Constitution gave more rights to states to govern themselves for a reason. If i think Capital punishment is wrong, i can move to a state where it is not legal! Now if we don't want a soft judge or a hard case or one that is prejudicial in his/her motivation, they may be removed from office by a majority vote.

November 17, 2009, 4:46pm (report abuse)what alot of people don't know is that a FEDERAL judge has to sentence from a "rulebook" while STATE judges can factor in other things like spouse's health etc. So the fact that I'm disabled and so is my 20 year old son, it had no effect on hubby's sentence. So, I fully SUPPORT this bill and HR 61.
As for the ones against this bill, try not to judge people UNTIL you have ALL the FACTS!!! Everybodies stories on here are a little different. But they are also the same: INMATES ARE PEOPLE TOO!!!!

November 18, 2009, 10:05am (report abuse)PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BILL!!!!! We have all made mistakes in our lives and we all deserve a second chance. Don't lock up our loved ones so history can repeat itself. Bring them home to their families so they can make a difference in their childrens lives and teach them not to make the same mistakes. TO BB: LETS SEE IF YOU HAVE THE SAME ATTITUDE WHEN YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE IS TAKEN AWAY FOR A PETTY CRIME!!!!!!!!
