H.R. 2596 would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to carry out a demonstration program to test the feasibility of using the Nation's elementary and secondary schools as influenza vaccination centers.

Detailed Summary

No Child Left Unimmunized Against Influenza Act of 2009 - Directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to carry out a multistate demonstration program designed to test the feasibility of using the nation's elementary and secondary schools as influenza vaccination centers in coordination with school nurses, school health care programs, local health departments, community health care providers, state insurance agencies, and private insurers.

Prohibits the Secretary from using such program for children who are eligible under other federally funded programs for payment of the costs of purchasing and administering the influenza vaccine. Requires the Secretary to work with the Secretary of Labor, state insurance agencies, and private insurers to ensure that children who have private insurance have coverage for all reasonable and customary expenses, including the costs of purchasing and administering the vaccine, incurred when influenza vaccine is administered outside of the physician's office in a school or other related setting. Authorizes the Secretary to pay the cost of purchasing and administering the influenza vaccine for children to the extent such cost is not covered through other federally funded programs or through private insurance.

Requires the program to be designed to administer vaccines consistent with recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for the annual vaccination of all children aged 5 years through 19 years.

Sets forth selection criteria for schools. Makes participation by a school or an individual voluntary. Requires the program to be conducted for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 influenza seasons.

Please vote no. Each and every vaccine is a decision that each parent should be making with their child's doctor as each child's circumstances are different. What works well for one may not for another and should only be decided based on that information. Some children may need a vaccine that another does not. This is not something families should feel rushed to do. Nor should it be placed on the head of the school to enforce such rules....

When I trusted the doctors to be helping my first daughter and to have her taken from me and replaced with a child with Rett's Syndrome and all that goes with it--yeah, so she doesn't get "sick" and the risks far outweigh... No, no, no! How many of those doctors lost their children that way? Now the government is trying to force more and more of these damaging vaccines on more children--and at school! I'm so glad I'm homeschooling and glad that so far there is an exemption from the vaccines in every state. What's with these people? If those that CHOOSE to vaccinate their children are truly IMMUNIZING them, then why can't they leave those of us alone who choose NOT to?????...

I just feel that if I want my child to have the vaccine that I will take him to the doctor to give him the vaccine. You know they say they dont have the funding to provide my child with the proper occupational therapy and one on one time he needs with his educational needs but hey we can start providing vaccines for the entire student body. Explain this to me. No on second thought dont bother because you cant. I dont want to homeschool either but it is at the poiont where soon I will have no choice because I can do better than his school system does for him. The sad thing is the one thing he loves about school is he finally has friends and he would miss them terribly. Shame on you school boards, school principals, superindents for forgetting why you are in the positions yhat you are. You are there for the children and you were put there by the taxpayers. Remember that....

I really don't believe the well-being of our children is something for the government to stick it's nose in... We as parents are the ones responsible for the choices we make for our children, and it's not fair (or right) for the gov't to be able to force these things, or make these decisions for us! This makes me VERY angry! Parent's need to be more responsible for themselves and their families, not less, in order to be able to teach the same responsibility to their children, not dependancy on the gov't to do everything for us! And amen, Jennifer!...

I have never had a flu vaccine in all 33 years of life and never had the flu. It doesn't make sense to me at all. Phooey on making the schools do vaccinations, that is not what they are there for. It is not the job of schools to administer any medication unless with parental consent. Hell it takes forms in triplicate for a child to get a Tylenol for God's sake. What is the world coming to, now its vaccinations that government wants to force schools to do. School's only function should be teaching the three Rs and science, history, English and preparation for college. That is it. The flu vaccine does not work, and leads to greater health problems. Vote no if you value the lives of children. Ask yourselves those in government would you knowingly allow your children to be injected with pure poison? I think I know the answer to that one would be a resounding no. That is my answer too....

this has been going on for years. My parents were vaccinated during the 50's during school. I was vacciated during the 5th grade. I understand young children may have it instilled in them to fear pain, but those parents can take their little tikes to the Dr.s office. For the rest save your cash and have a certified nurse deliver the vacciation and be done with it....

I have mitochondrial disfunction so do my sons whom I have almost recovered from autism. We are just like Hannah Poling who also had mitro disease and developed autism after getting her vaccines. I think my kids would not have autism if at least I was better informed about the vaccines and I knew about Hannah Poling. Mito disease is common in autistic kids and should be checked before getting vaccines....

Forced immunizations for something that is less dangerous than the regular flu? Are you kidding me? People only die from the flu when their immune system is compromised. My son has heavy metal poisoning and you want to add more to this? Vaccines are poison. What if there is a reaction at SCHOOL, what are they or the government going to do. There is no longer any legal recourse to the vaccine makers if something goes wrong. They can put anything in that they wish and change the studies to make it say what they want. Let PARENTS decide what they think is right. My kids will NOT get vaccinated....

Please vote "NO" on vaccinating at school. Vaccines come as a "one size fits all" My son has reacted badly to vaccines in the past (yes I do believe in vaccines, but not for routine administration to everyone) I need to be able to sit face-to-face with his doctor to discuss the risk/benefit to my son at this particular time in his development, which to give now, which to delay. And even his doctor said he did not need the HepA vaccine--vaccinating kids (who get a minor short term illness with no lasting effects)to protect older adults did not make sense for my child at this time and his known reactions to vaccines....
